Discussion of a Master’s thesis at the College of Islamic Sciences about the theory of values in Imami jurisprudence

Master’s thesis defense at College of Islamic Sciences, University of Karbala, on “The Theory of Values in Imami Jurisprudence and its Impact on Deduction of Juridical Rulings – Chosen by Sayyid Muhammad Taqi Al-Mudarrisi”. The student Sajjad Muhammad Muhammad Kazim Al-Mudarrisi presented the thesis in the Imam Hussein (AS) Hall at the college.

The researcher highlighted that according to the theory of values, religious teachings cannot be separated into creed, ethics, and legislation. They must be studied collectively due to their interconnectedness and mutual influences. The theory of values reduces reliance on practical principles that lack evidence in the field of juridical deduction.

The conclusions of the study include:

  1. Organizing the principles of jurisprudence according to jurisprudential theories contributes to the development of jurisprudential studies, providing a methodological framework to understand the dimensions and backgrounds of jurisprudential discussions.
  2. The theory of Maqasid al-Sharia (Objectives of Islamic Law) is fundamental for interpreting and applying religious rulings in practical life. It is based on the concept that Islamic law is built upon benefits and harms, and its rulings are dependent on real benefits and harms that can be comprehended and regulated by human intellect.
