The master’s thesis titled “Linguistic Explanation in the Books of Quranic Readings in the Sixth Hijri Century” by the student Zeinah Ibrahim Mazhar Hamoud was discussed at the College of Islamic Sciences at the University of Karbala. The defense took place in the Imam Hussein (AS) Hall within the college.
The study focused on the books of Quranic readings from the sixth Hijri century, distinguishing it from other centuries by the abundance of books on Quranic readings, totaling fourteen books. It is noteworthy that the scholars of this century varied in their perspectives. This diversity covered several aspects, including discussions on the justifications for these readings, their reasons, and the causes of differences among them. Some of the prominent books in this field include “Al-Jam’ wal-Tawjih lima Nufarid bi-Qira’atihi Ya’qub” by Abu al-Hasan al-Ru’aini al-Ishbili (539 AH), “Tahqiq al-Hamzatayn” by Abu al-Asbagh al-Samati al-Ishbili (560 AH), “Mafatih al-Aghani fi al-Qira’at wa al-Ma’ani” by Abu al-Ala al-Kirmani (563 AH), and “Al-Mawdih fi Wujuh al-Qira’at wa ‘Illalaha” by Ibn Abi Maryam al-Shirazi (565 AH). Other remaining books specialized in mentioning specific readings.
