Under the patronage of the President of the University of Karbala, Professor Dr. Basim Khalil, and the Dean of the College of Islamic Sciences, Professor Dr. Mohammed Hussein Al-Tai, the Women’s Empowerment Unit at the college, in collaboration with the Continuing Education Department, held an online workshop on the Sharia boundaries for professional interaction between men and women. The workshop was presented by Professor Dr. Hameed Jasim Al-Gharabi and Dr. Ayaat Abdul Wahab, and moderated by Mr. Khaled Abdel Nabi.
The workshop emphasized Islam’s insistence on maintaining the boundaries between men and women in all places, whether in the streets, workplaces, or universities. Both men and women are required to respect these boundaries. By observing Islam’s sensitivity regarding the interaction and level of mixing between men and women, women will be able to engage in all professions practiced by men, provided they have the physical ability, desire, and opportunity.
The danger arises from not adhering to the Sharia boundaries, which include avoiding excessive adornment, physical contact, handshaking, as well as joking, excessive laughter, and inappropriate speech.
