The College of Islamic Sciences at the University of Karbala collaborated with Dar al-Quran al-Kareem in the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussein to organize the seventh National Quranic Competition for university students in the fields of memorization, recitation, and interpretation. The competition took place on Monday, March 4, 2024, with the participation of 84 students representing 28 teams from 26 Iraqi universities.
The competition began with a beautiful recitation by Abdullah Zuheir, a reciter from the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussein, followed by a speech delivered by Professor Dr. Mohammed Hussein Al-Taie, the representative of the University of Karbala. In his speech, he expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussein and specifically to Dar al-Quran al-Kareem for their sponsorship and support of the Quranic movement in Iraq. The event also included a speech by the Department of Dar al-Quran al-Kareem, delivered by Dr. Sayed Mortada Jamaluddin, the Scientific Assistant to the Department’s Head. He emphasized the importance of competition in striving for personal and institutional excellence and encouraged the participants to continue their journey towards contemplation of the Quran. The opening ceremony concluded with a performance of a nasheed (Islamic chant) by the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussein’s chanting group.
