Discussion of a Master’s thesis at the College of Islamic Sciences on the effectiveness of religious influence among poets of poetry

A discussion was held at the College of Islamic Sciences at the University of Karbala on a Master’s thesis entitled ‘The Effectiveness of Religious Influence Among Poets of Poetry: A Descriptive Analytical Study’ by student Maytham Sahib in the Imam Hussein (AS) Hall at the college.

The thesis aims to highlight the religious influence among poets of poetry, especially considering that their poetic collections are rich in Quranic verses, religious symbols, and noble Prophetic traditions.

It concluded that the effectiveness of religious influence among poets of poetry is evident in their approach to dealing with Quranic texts through direct and indirect quotations and allusions to blessed Quranic verses, in accordance with the poetic subject and the poet’s purpose to achieve artistic impact on the audience. Additionally, poets employ Quranic characters and figures from the Ahlul Bayt (AS), and utilize masks in their poems by drawing upon Arab heritage with its associated connotations and positions that illuminate the poets’ experiences. The poets demonstrate attention to artistic imagery through metaphors, similes, allegories, and repetition, evoking Quranic stories to become a stream in their poetry, relying on their religious, emotional, and symbolic culture in their poetic experiences
