The College of Islamic Sciences, through its Continuing Education Unit, held a training course titled “Choice and Decision-Making in Human Life,” spanning three days. The course was presented by Assistant Prof. Dr. Taghreed Abdul Ameer’s from the Department of Arabic Language. It covered various topics, including examples from Islamic history and the lives of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them), demonstrating how they confronted imposed choices with determination, willpower, and a challenge to adverse realities.
Dr. Taghreed emphasized that, historically, it has been said that a person’s choice reflects their intellect and goals. Choices stem from an individual’s behavioral and cognitive framework. She noted that many of our students lament their choices at the start of each academic year, feeling that their specialization was imposed upon them by internal factors (such as family expectations) and external factors (such as their grades and academic abilities), leading to feelings of stagnation and confusion.
