A PhD dissertation titled “The Accompanying Message in the Holy Quran: A Rhetorical Study” was discussed at the Faculty of Islamic Sciences at the University of Karbala. The dissertation was presented by the student Insam Adel Jahel in the Imam Hussein (PBUH) Hall of the faculty.
The researcher pointed out that the Holy Quran contains messages that accompany its rich text, sometimes prominently and at other times subtly intertwined within its miraculous discourse. She traced these messages by examining the unique insights offered by books on Quranic interpretation, rhetoric, and criticism, which have hinted at some of these messages.
The researcher employed a rhetorical methodology, integrating analytical tools that blend Western scholarly approaches with Arabic linguistic traditions. This fusion produced a set of concepts that cover the linguistic elements constituting the Quranic text.
The discussion committee was chaired by Professor Amjad Hamid Abdullah, with the membership of Professor Raedah Mahdi Jaber, Assistant Professor Huda Saeed Jabr, Assistant Professor Taghreed Abdul Amir Marhoon, and Assistant Professor Osama Mohammed Mahdi. The dissertation was supervised by Assistant Professor Layla Saadallah Naji and was awarded a grade of “Excellent.”
