The Women’s Affairs Unit at the Faculty of Islamic Sciences, University of Karbala, organized an online seminar titled “Reducing the Phenomenon of Violence Against Women and Their Status in the Quran,” presented by Professor Dr. Nahida Jaleel Al-Ghalibi and Lecturer Dr. Maryam Hadi Reda.
The seminar aimed in its first part to shed light on the concept of violence and its impact on the family. The second part focused on honoring women and ensuring their rights in Islamic law, referencing Quranic texts related to the topic.
The seminar concluded with important recommendations, including the need to legislate laws protecting women and children from violence, involving women in the workforce to elevate their status in society, and emphasizing the study of the lives of inspirational women in educational curricula, such as the biography of Lady Fatimah al-Zahra (peace be upon her), as role models for families.
The attendees enriched the seminar with valuable discussions and contributions. It is worth mentioning that the Women’s Affairs Department at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has directed institutions to hold seminars and awareness campaigns against domestic violence, promoting family cohesion and strengthening its bonds.
