A master’s thesis titled Interpretative Preferences of Sayyid Abdul A’la Al-Sabzwari in His Exegesis “Mawahib Al-Rahman” was discussed at the Faculty of Islamic Sciences, University of Karbala. The thesis, authored by student Kawakib Abbas Hashim, delves into the interpretative choices made by Sayyid Abdul A’la Al-Sabzwari, a distinguished figure of scholarly, jurisprudential, and religious prominence, known as an authority among jurists and a master of Islamic jurisprudence.

The thesis presents a summary of the interpretative debates among scholars, offering readers a scientifically grounded understanding of divine intent in specific Quranic verses. It simplifies the meaning of these verses, sparing readers the need to consult extensive primary sources, by providing concise interpretations supported by sound evidence. Additionally, the thesis conducts comparative studies with other exegeses to arrive at interpretations closest to the intended meanings in cases of interpretative variation.

The research highlights several findings, including that Sayyid Al-Sabzwari dedicated significant efforts to his work Mawahib Al-Rahman, adhering to an objective methodology. His approach to verses regarding Islamic rulings was particularly comprehensive, with succinct guidance in his exegesis of legal verses, often directing readers to his book Muhadhdhab Al-Ahkam for further detail. Moreover, he employed a tradition-based interpretative style, using Quranic verses to explain one another and referencing the sayings of the Imams. His work also pays meticulous attention to semantic structures, focusing on the meanings of words and letters.
