The College of Islamic Sciences at the University of Karbala organized a course on “The Role of University Professors in Combating Extremism,” presented by Associate Professor Dr. Ahmed Rahi Saadoun.
The course aimed to equip university professors with the knowledge and skills necessary to promote moderation and foster a culture of tolerance both within and beyond the university campus. It also sought to empower educators to understand their critical role in addressing extremist ideologies through effective communication with students and by serving as role models in respecting differing opinions.
Key topics covered in the course included:
- The Concept of Extremism and Its Causes: Defining extremism and its various dimensions (intellectual, religious, political) while discussing the social, psychological, and economic factors contributing to the emergence of extremist ideologies.
- The Role of the University Professor as a Role Model: Highlighting the importance of professors as influential figures.
- Curriculum Enhancement to Combat Extremism: Strategies for combating extremism through student activities and curriculum development.
