The Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Islamic Sciences, University of Karbala, in collaboration with the Continuing Education Unit, organized a workshop titled “Divorce in Society: Causes and Solutions.”
The workshop, presented by Prof. Nahida Jaleel Abdul Hassan and Assistant Professor Dr. Alaa Abdul Kadhim Jabbar, aimed to define divorce linguistically and terminologically, while identifying its causes. These include early marriage and the importance of carefully selecting spouses, emphasizing that quality in spouses is essential for both men and women, as women are considered equal counterparts to men in legal and religious rulings.
The workshop concluded with several recommendations, including:
- Encouraging media outlets to dedicate daily or weekly programs to raise awareness about family responsibilities.
- Establishing specialized offices for family affairs (as genuine research centers) overseen by experts in religion, sociology, education, psychology, and law.
- Making mandatory preparatory courses for prospective couples similar to the medical examination requirement before marriage.
