As part of its efforts to address critical social issues, the Department of Quranic Sciences and Islamic Education at the College of Islamic Sciences, University of Karbala, organized a training course titled Strategies to Reduce Divorce Rates in Iraqi Society: Challenges and Aspirations from the Perspective of Islamic Sharia. The course was conducted in response to directives from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to provide effective solutions to this growing phenomenon.
The course, presented by Assistant Lecturer Hasan Abdul-Hadi Rashid, analyzed the increasing divorce rates in Iraqi society. It included a review of official statistics and a discussion of the primary causes contributing to this issue. The sessions explored potential solutions based on Islamic Sharia principles and examined the role of the Iraqi judiciary, particularly Article (57) of the Personal Status Law. The course also addressed the social influences of tribes, families, and religious orators in either mitigating or exacerbating the problem.
A highlight of the course was an interactive survey distributed to participants to gather their opinions on the root causes of divorce and potential solutions.
The course witnessed significant engagement from attendees, fostering dynamic discussions and an environment of constructive dialogue. Participants emphasized the importance of hosting similar initiatives to raise societal awareness and promote stronger, more stable communities.
