When the companions went with Imam Hussain (peace be upon him) to Karbala, leaving behind their families and worldly pleasures, they did not leave except with love for Hussain as their primary motivation. It was a love that liberated the servant John, drove Ibn Shabib to madness, occupied Sheikh Habib, and made Ibn Qaym willing to sacrifice his grey hair for Hussain. Love that means closeness, means a sharp arrow, means burnt tents, means captives and orphans.
Love that connected the hearts and minds of the people, both young and old, so much so that they disregarded death and rushed towards it.
Love that illuminated faces and enlightened hearts.
Love that never left the hearts of the people until they were martyred for the beloved.
And the beloved, who melted in his love, was both the master and the servant, the Muslim and the Christian, the man and the woman, the young and the old.
Imam Hussain (peace be upon him) was a revolutionary emotional state that pierced the veils of darkness and the desires of the soul, lighting the hearts of his lovers.
He will remain, the father of martyrs, a spark of love in the heart of every Muslim, guiding them on the path of truth, the path of freedom.
