Abstract

Poetry, like all other literary texts, is subject to quotation and inclusion, and the best quotation is from the verses of the Holy Qur’an or from the words of the Noble Prophet’s Sunnah and the Noble House. The most definitive text is the Holy Book, whether the quote is direct or indirect, and poets have followed this path. This method of quoting, ancient and modern, is for the purpose of strengthening the meaning, conveying the idea, and attracting the reader, including the late Karbalai poet Ali Al-Fattal, whose religious influence had a major role in his poetry. We have chosen a title for this study (Religious References in the Poetry of Ali Al-Fattal (d. 2021 AD), a Rhetorical Study) The study concluded that the poet Al-Fattall – the subject of the study – is an example of the poets of this holy city, and of Iraq as well. They are a class of intellectuals whose sources of culture are diverse, but they consider the noble verses and noble hadiths to be the most important sources of their culture.
The poets of this period did not limit their use of religious references to their religious inclinations, but they also employed those references in urging jihad for the sake of God, defending and protecting the homeland, supporting its religious belief, and consolidating some moral values…etc.
Al-Fattal’s productions included most of the Arabic rhetorical styles. Perhaps the reason for this was the breadth of his literary achievements in general and his poetic achievements in particular throughout his life, and the multiplicity of his purposes for which he contrasted, which is evidence of Al-Fattal’s proficiency in conjugating Arabic speech in its various aspects, and interrogating the intended meaning through these references in a way that stops the recipient from The goal is without effort or long consideration.
The researcher proposes to study the cultural – non-religious – references in his poetry, and to shed light on the poets of this stage whose works have not yet been studied.
