The College of Islamic Sciences at the University of Karbala held a discussion on a doctoral dissertation titled “Drug Regulations in Islamic Jurisprudence: A Comparative Study with Secular Law,” presented by the student Haider Faeq Awz, in Imam Hussein Hall at the college.

The dissertation aimed to shed light on various jurisprudential and legal rulings related to the subject, as well as the religious and legal penalties for individuals involved in drug-related activities unlawfully.

The researcher highlighted that, due to pharmaceutical and chemical advancements, numerous types of drugs now exist, differing in color, severity, and origin. This has contributed to the widespread issue of drug abuse, one of the most pressing challenges faced by societies, particularly Islamic communities. Therefore, collective efforts must be made to combat this foreign phenomenon.

Following an in-depth discussion, the dissertation was accepted with a grade of “Excellent.”
