A Faculty Member from the College of Islamic Sciences Participates in the Human Rights Festival with a Lecture on Compassion in Islamic Legislation

Assistant Lecturer Hassan Abdul-Hadi Rashid from the College of Islamic Sciences participated in the festival “Human Rights in Iraq: Challenges and Sustainable Prospects,” held at the Sanhouri Hall in the College of Law. The event was attended by a distinguished group of professors, students, and individuals interested in legal and intellectual affairs, and was organized by the Human Rights Unit at the College of Education for Human Sciences.

The festival featured a diverse academic and cultural program. After the opening ceremony, participants moved to the hall at the College of Education for Human Sciences, where Mr. Hassan Abdul-Hadi delivered his lecture titled:
“Hardship in the Rulings of Islamic Legislation – The Allegation of Harm to Human Rights and Freedom.”

The lecture focused on the compassionate aspects of Islamic legislation, emphasizing the principles of facilitation (taysir) and the removal of hardship (raf‘ al-ḥaraj), while addressing misconceptions about limitations on human freedom under Sharia law.

The session witnessed strong engagement from the audience, who enriched the discussion with their questions and contributions. The dialogue revolved around addressing contemporary intellectual challenges and presenting a balanced image of Islamic law as one rooted in mercy and human benefit.
