University of Karbala's College of Islamic Sciences Organizes Awareness Seminar on the Role of Iraqi Women in Sustainable Development

The Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Islamic Sciences, University of Karbala, held an awareness seminar titled “The Role of Iraqi Women in Sustainable Development,” as part of the institutional reform and participation pillar. The session was led by Assistant Lecturer Ranaa Hassan Shati, the college’s liaison officer for women’s affairs.

The seminar aimed to highlight the significant and influential role of women as essential partners in Iraqi society, recognizing the comprehensive status granted to them by Islam across social, economic, and cultural domains.

Key topics addressed in the seminar included:

  1. Women’s contributions to enhancing the local economy and diversifying income sources.
  2. Their leadership roles in fields such as renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and recycling.
  3. Their part in bridging food gaps and securing alternatives for family members, thereby strengthening both family and societal stability.
  4. Their encouragement of children’s education and focus on their health.
  5. Their role in alleviating poverty by addressing both the material and spiritual needs of the family.

The seminar concluded with several recommendations, including:

  • Raising environmental awareness among women, especially in rural areas, given the impact of culture and education on their community roles.
  • Promoting environmental education through media, training programs, and seminars.
  • Emphasizing the elimination of all forms of violence against women to ensure a dignified Islamic environment that empowers them to fulfill their roles as endorsed by the Holy Qur’an and the Prophetic Sunnah.

This seminar underscores the College of Islamic Sciences’ commitment to empowering women and enhancing their participation in achieving sustainable development goals within Iraqi society.
