Abstract
The books of the strange Qur’an represent rich linguistic material for researchers and scholars. As it is one of the sciences that our scholars were keen to pay attention to and pay special attention to Qur’anic words and due to the multiplicity of approaches that scholars have adopted in their works, we found Sheikh Qasim bin Hassan bin Musa bin Sharif bin Muhammad bin Yusuf bin Muhammad bin Jaafar bin Ali bin Hussein bin Muhyiddin Al Abi Jami’ Al Harithi Al-Hamdani (d. 1376 AH) . He is one of the scholars of Najaf Al-Ashraf, who are referred to as Al-Banan.
He was unique in his special way of writing, which is combining verses and prose in explaining strange words. There is no lengthiness in the explanation and no violation of the verses. Hence, we stopped at one of the Sheikh’s works, which is the book (Al-Bayan fi Sharh Ghareeb). The Qur’an) in its three parts, and our study of it was entitled (Linguistic Investigations in (Al-Bayan fi Sharh Ghareeb Al-Qur’an) by Sheikh Qasim bin Al-Sheikh Hassan Muhyiddin (d. 1376).
The study was in four chapters, preceded by an introduction and followed by a conclusion. We covered all levels of language; The first chapter was devoted to studying the phonetic phenomena in the book Al-Bayan fi Sharh Gharib Al-Qur’an, which are assimilation, substitution, deletion, and the verification of the hamza and its facilitation. The second chapter was devoted to derivatives, plural structures, the meanings of additional forms, and various morphological issues, including prepositions, nouns of verbs, and others. As for the third chapter, it consisted of three sections, the first on grammatical functions and the second on methods. As for the third, we dealt with various grammatical issues.
The fourth chapter also included three sections. In the first section, we dealt with semantic correspondence, while the second section was about semantic differences, and the third section was devoted to various semantic issues.
The thesis ended with a conclusion in which I summarized the most important findings that we reached, including the study revealing that Sheikh Qasim Muhyiddin is a scientific encyclopedia and was even considered one of the rare scientific figures of his time, but the way he composed “Al-Gharib” is considered new. He had his own way of categorizing Al-Gharib, which is combining prose and poetry. The study also revealed that there is no problem with the word “Al-Gharib”; Some of them denied calling the Qur’an strange and responded to that by saying that strange is synonymous with the usual or the famous and well-known, which is a relative issue between one person and another. The study also revealed the author’s attention to all levels of the language and relied on them in explaining the strange vocabulary that he included in his book.
