With hearts filled with sorrow, the College of Islamic Sciences, represented by its Dean, Professor Dr. Muhammad Hussein Abboud Al-Taie, the Islamic Rituals Revival Committee, its professors, staff, and students, extend their deepest condolences to the presence of the Awaited Imam (may Allah hasten his reappearance) and the esteemed religious authorities on the great loss of the supporter of the Messenger of Allah and the father of his successor, Abu Talib (may Allah be pleased with him), whose death deeply saddened the heart of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family).
It was narrated from Imam Amir al-Mu’minin (peace be upon him) that he said: “By Allah, neither my father, nor my grandfather Abdul-Muttalib, nor Hashim, nor Abdul-Manaf ever worshipped an idol.” He was asked, “Then what did they worship?” He said, “They prayed toward the House (Kaaba) following the religion of Ibrahim, adhering to it.”
When Abu Talib (may Allah have mercy on him) passed away, Amir al-Mu’minin (peace be upon him) went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) and informed him of his death. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) was deeply grieved and saddened. He said, “Go, O Ali, prepare his body for washing, shrouding, and embalming, and when you lift him onto his bier, inform me.” Imam Ali (peace be upon him) did as instructed. When the bier was lifted, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) came, was moved with compassion, and said: “May your ties of kinship be honored, and may you be rewarded with goodness. Truly, you raised and supported me as a child and assisted and defended me as an adult.”
Then he turned to the people and said: “By Allah, I will intercede for my uncle with an intercession that will astonish the people of the two worlds.”
Oh Abu Talib, how great you were! You lived oppressed and died oppressed, and the injustice extended even to your descendants and your afterlife! May Allah reward you for all that you endured, remained patient for, and sought reward for, with the best reward of the believers. Peace be upon you on the day you were born, the day you passed away, and the day you will be resurrected alive. And there is no power or strength except with Allah, the Most High, the Great.
