Discussion of a master’s thesis in the College of Islamic Sciences on the effectiveness of religious influence on poets of poetry

A master’s thesis discussion was held at the College of Islamic Sciences at the University of Karbala on the topic of “The Effectiveness of Religious Influence on Poets of Poetry: A Descriptive Analytical Study” by student Maitham Sahib in the Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) Hall of the college.

The thesis aims to elucidate the religious influence on poets of poetry, especially since their poetic collections are rich in Quranic verses, religious symbols, and noble Prophetic traditions.

It concluded that the effectiveness of religious influence on poets of poetry is evident in their handling of Quranic texts through direct and indirect quotations and allusions to blessed Quranic verses, tailored to fit the poetic theme and serve the poet’s purpose in achieving artistic impact on the audience. Additionally, they utilize Quranic and Ahlul Bayt (peace be upon them) figures and employ masks in their poetry, drawing from Arab heritage with its associated connotations and stances that illuminate the poets’ experiences. The poets demonstrate care for artistic imagery through metaphors, similes, allegories, and repetition, invoking Quranic stories to become a tributary of their poetry, relying on their religious, emotional, and semantic culture in their poetic experiments.
