The College of Islamic Sciences at the University of Karbala hosted a discussion for a Master’s thesis titled The Shared Core Doctrines in Prophethood and Imamate – An Exegetical Study, presented by graduate student Sara Fares Jalil.
The thesis offered an exegetical analysis of the major concepts shared between the positions of Prophethood and Imamate in light of Qur’anic texts.
It highlighted the essential attributes inseparable from both Prophethood and Imamate, viewing them as two great divine offices united by elevated traits described by the researcher as “core doctrines.” Among these are physical and spiritual purity, and the dual role in legislation and cosmic order. The study demonstrated how prophets and Imams carry divine responsibilities that include delivering divine rulings and managing cosmic realities by God’s permission.
The study aims to deepen doctrinal understanding of these two divine offices and clarify their impact on spiritual and societal life. It also seeks to explore major theological and philosophical concepts that help affirm a true Islamic identity through Qur’anic interpretation and the exploration of authentic Islamic intellectual heritage.
