As part of ongoing academic engagement and a commitment to deepening research in the fields of language and criticism, Prof. Dr. Saeed Hameed Kazem Wanas, a faculty member in the Department of Arabic Language at the College of Islamic Sciences – University of Karbala, published a peer-reviewed scholarly article in the Journal of the Lebanese Writers Union. This is a specialized academic journal focused on Arabic language and literature and is recognized for academic promotion purposes.
The published study, titled:
“The Narrative Agent Between Withdrawal and Resistance: Character in the Novel ‘Five Voices’ as a Model”,
analyzes the deep structural role of the fictional character in shaping narrative action, and its ability to generate various levels of interaction and influence—both on the surface of the narrative and within its deeper psychological structure.
The research centers on the novel Five Voices by Iraqi novelist Ghaib Tu’ma Farman, treating it as a rich narrative model that reveals the character’s effectiveness in managing and directing conflict. It also examines the central roles characters play in renewing the text and reshaping its vision.
Dr. Saeed Hameed asserts in his study that the narrative character does not function passively, but rather serves as a semantic core that contributes to meaning-making and propels the textual structure by aligning with narrative action and deeply influencing the course of events.
This study represents a significant addition to the field of narrative studies and contemporary literary criticism. It reflects the depth of Dr. Saeed Hameed’s academic expertise in literary text analysis and his prominent role in the field of scholarly research and authorship.
This accomplishment adds to a series of distinguished academic contributions by faculty members of the College of Islamic Sciences – University of Karbala. It strengthens the college’s academic standing among Iraqi and Arab scientific institutions and exemplifies its spirit of scholarly partnership with cultural unions and academic bodies across the Arab world.
