The Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Islamic Sciences, University of Karbala, organized an awareness campaign titled “No to Extremist Thought… Together for a Society of Peaceful Coexistence,” as part of the pillar of participation and institutional reform, with the supervision and participation of faculty members and students of the College.
The campaign included the distribution of awareness posters among students and faculty members of the Department of Fiqh and Its Principles, aiming to confront and combat extremist thought due to the serious threat it poses to societal peace, as it contributes to the spread of hatred and hinders peaceful coexistence among members of society.
The campaign highlighted that among the most prominent causes of extremism are ignorance, weak religious awareness, lack of consciousness, the misuse of religion, and a sense of injustice. It emphasized that one of the most effective ways to counter extremism is through promoting a culture of dialogue and tolerance, strengthening the values of citizenship and national belonging, and focusing on conscious and enlightened education.
The campaign also stressed the pivotal role of university professors and religious figures in confronting such intellectual phenomena, in addition to emphasizing the particular role of women, the family in general, as well as the role of schools and the media in building a moderate and balanced mindset.
It is worth noting that the Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Islamic Sciences is keen to organize such awareness campaigns periodically, given their effective role in enhancing societal awareness and addressing contemporary intellectual challenges.
