The Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Islamic Sciences organized a virtual seminar entitled “The Importance of Women’s Role in the Political Process – The Parliamentary Elections as a Model.” The seminar was delivered by Lecturer Dr. Noor Aqeel Mohammed and addressed several key themes.

The first part of the seminar explored the concept of the political process and legislative elections, highlighting the role of women through their involvement in decision-making. The second section focused on women’s political participation after 2003, particularly following the adoption of the 2005 Constitution. Another focal point of the seminar was the concept of the women’s quota and how some female candidates secured the highest number of votes in their electoral districts.

Key findings of the seminar included:

  1. Women’s participation in elections is a fundamental right guaranteed by both the constitution and international law.
  2. More equitable policies are achieved when women are involved in decision-making, ensuring policies reflect broader societal needs.
  3. Comprehensive development is supported by women’s ability to participate in shaping public policy.
  4. Inclusivity and representation are enhanced through women’s participation, ensuring elections reflect the voices of all societal segments.

The seminar witnessed strong engagement from attendees and was enriched by questions and discussions, especially given the approaching elections and the critical importance of women’s involvement in the political process.
