The College of Islamic Sciences discusses Quranic texts in Al-Marzouqi’s explanation of Abu Tammam’s “Hamasah” Diwan

The College of Islamic Sciences at the University of Karbala, Department of Arabic Language, discussed a Master’s thesis titled “Quranic Texts in the Explanation of Abu Tammam’s ‘Hamasah’ Diwan by Al-Marzouqi (died 421 AH): A Linguistic Study.” The defense took place on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at 9:00 AM in Imam Hussein Hall.

The researcher adopted a descriptive-analytical approach in writing the thesis chapters. They extracted Quranic evidence mentioned in Al-Marzouqi’s explanation of Abu Tammam’s ‘Hamasah’ Diwan, categorized and analyzed it based on linguistic levels. The researcher also utilized a documentary approach by starting with the mention of a poetic verse from the ‘Hamasah’ Diwan and Al-Marzouqi’s commentary on it, followed by the opinions of ancient linguists regarding the linguistic issue, noting areas of disagreement and consensus. Additionally, the researcher referred to exegesis books, mentioning the opinions of their authors on the studied issue, and concluded by citing the opinions of contemporary scholars, if any.

  • Professor Dr. Abbas Ali Ismail from the University of Karbala, College of Islamic Sciences, as a member and supervisor.
