The College of Islamic Sciences at the University of Karbala strongly condemned the heinous crime of burning a copy of the Holy Quran, with permission from the Swedish police.
The College affirmed its solidarity with the call made by the highest religious authority in Najaf Al-Ashraf, the Iraqi Jurisprudence Assembly, and the Sunni and Shia Endowment Diwans in Iraq, as well as all governmental institutions and other entities, to preserve the sanctity of holy sites and Islamic constants, and to refrain from any violation of them under the pretext of freedom of expression. It is called on the relevant authorities to take necessary measures to hold accountable those responsible for such hostile acts which contradict the spirit of humanity and respect for others. Furthermore, it emphasized the need to neutralize extremist ideologies and eliminate their sources in order to prevent the recurrence of such acts and positions that are hostile to Islam and Muslims.
