The College of Islamic Sciences at the University of Karbala held a defense of the master’s thesis submitted by student Hassan Imad Jawad Al-Amiri, titled:
“The Standards of Progress and Development in the Holy Qur’an – Presentation and Analysis,” in the presence of a committee of specialized professors and an audience of postgraduate students.
The thesis shed light on the Qur’an’s comprehensive vision of the concepts of progress and development through an analytical study of the verses that address various aspects of life—religious, cultural, scientific, economic, and political—as essential criteria for human advancement and perfection.
The researcher focused on interpreting Qur’anic verses that refer to scientific, economic, and political progress, linking them to ethical and religious values, and clarifying how the Qur’an establishes a balanced integration between material and spiritual dimensions within the context of human development.
The study also compared the Qur’anic criteria with modern concepts of progress, highlighting the degree of alignment between the Qur’anic vision and contemporary development standards, while emphasizing that the Qur’an does not confine itself to material aspects but provides an essential moral and spiritual framework for achieving comprehensive and sustainable development.
The thesis concluded that the Holy Qur’an represents a rich civilizational reference for societies aspiring toward balanced renaissance, and that adherence to Qur’anic standards in development planning contributes to building an advanced society that preserves human dignity and achieves both moral and human progress.
