The Department of Arabic Language at the College of Islamic Sciences, University of Karbala, Holds Its Annual Festival on the Occasion of World Arabic Language Day

Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Islamic Sciences at the University of Karbala, Professor Dr. Mohammed Hussein Aboud Al-Taie, and under the supervision of the Head of the Department of Arabic Language, Professor Dr. Hazem Fadel Al-Bariz, the Department of Arabic Language held its annual festival on the occasion of World Arabic Language Day. The event took place at Imam Hussein Hall (peace be upon him) in the College, under the slogan:
“Our Arabic Language… A Message of Civilization and the Immortality of Identity.”

The festival aimed to highlight the status of the Arabic language and its civilizational and cultural role, and to emphasize its importance in strengthening identity and enhancing linguistic awareness among students and the academic community. The festival segments were hosted by Assistant Professor Dr. Khalid Al-Asadi, a faculty member of the department.

The festival proceedings began with a recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an by the student reciter Mohammed Muftin, followed by the Iraqi national anthem and a standing recitation of Surah Al-Fatiha in honor of the souls of the righteous martyrs.

The Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Mohammed Hussein Aboud Al-Taie, delivered a speech in which he highlighted the importance of celebrating the Arabic language as a vessel for sciences and knowledge, affirming the College’s support for scientific and cultural activities that serve and promote the Arabic language.
The Head of the Department of Arabic Language, Professor Dr. Hazem Fadel Al-Bariz, also delivered a speech outlining the department’s role in consolidating linguistic and literary studies and encouraging students toward creativity and scientific research in the field of Arabic language.

The festival included the screening of a video about the Day of the Arabic Letter “Ḍād” and the faculty members of the Department of Arabic Language, produced by the Media and Government Communication Division of the College.
In addition, Professor Dr. Wafaa delivered a speech emphasizing the authenticity of the Arabic language and its ability to keep pace with modern times, followed by a speech by Assistant Professor Dr. Nawal Al-Naqeeb, who highlighted the importance of preserving the integrity of the Arabic language and taking pride in it within academic and cultural discourse.

Professor Dr. Safaa Hussein Latif, a faculty member of the department, contributed a distinguished poetic piece, alongside a theatrical performance presented by female students of the third stage, showcasing their creative talents. The activities concluded with the presentation of a muwashshah lamenting Al-Andalus, reflecting the depth and beauty of Arab heritage.

At the conclusion of the festival, certificates of appreciation were awarded to the participants in recognition of their efforts and contributions to the success of this distinguished cultural event.
