Under the patronage of the President of the University of Karbala, Professor Dr. Sabah Wajid, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Islamic Sciences, Professor Dr. Mohammed Al-Ta’i, the College of Islamic Sciences launched the activities of the preparatory training course for the third edition of the University Debates World Cup. The course was held at the Continuing Education Hall, with the participation of a selected group of nominated students from the three academic departments: the Department of Qur’anic Sciences, the Department of Fiqh, and the Department of Arabic Language.
The program of the first day focused on introducing the art of debating, with emphasis on the theoretical foundations of academic debate. This included clarifying its objectives, benefits, and importance, as well as introducing the adopted scientific debating system, the roles of the participating teams, and the ethics of dialogue and debate.
These activities come as part of ongoing efforts to support scientific and skills-based activities, promote a culture of constructive dialogue and critical thinking among students, and enhance their abilities in analysis, reasoning, and argumentation in scientific issues, in line with the college’s orientation toward developing university skills.
It is worth noting that the Iraqi Universities Debates World Cup is organized by the International Academy for Leadership and Development in cooperation with the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
