College of Islamic Sciences at the University of Karbala Holds Its Second Annual Conference for Undergraduate Student Research

Under the patronage of the President of the University of Karbala, Professor Dr. Sabah Wajid Ali, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Islamic Sciences, Professor Dr. Mohammed Hussein Aboud Al-Taie, the College of Islamic Sciences held its second annual conference for undergraduate student research on Wednesday, April 23, 2025. The conference was titled: “Research Activities Between Critique and Evaluation: A Reading into the Future of Academic Performance” and was held at the Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) Hall at 9:00 a.m.

The opening session began with a recitation from the Holy Qur’an by members of the Qur’anic service team in the college, followed by the national anthem, and the recitation of Surat Al-Fatiha in memory of the martyrs. The Dean of the College then delivered a welcoming speech to the participants and attendees. This was followed by a short documentary video introducing the student conference, prepared by the college’s student editing and filming team, and speeches by several faculty members and participating students.

The aim of the conference was to showcase the research outputs of undergraduate students and to highlight their academic potential. It also sought to promote a spirit of constructive scientific competition among the students.

The conference featured fourteen research tracks, including:

  • Contemporary Qur’anic Studies
  • Qur’anic Grammar
  • Hadith and Biographical Studies
  • Tafsir (Qur’anic Exegesis)
  • Qur’anic Sciences
  • Jurisprudence and Usul (Foundations of Jurisprudence)
  • Islamic Thought
  • Educational Studies
  • Islamic Economics
  • Historical Studies
  • Literary Studies
  • Rhetoric and Eloquence
  • Media Studies
  • Literary Criticism

A total of 35 research papers were presented across four academic sessions, each chaired by specialized faculty members.

At the conclusion of the conference, certificates of appreciation were awarded to the participating students and their supervisors, and outstanding students were honored in recognition of their academic excellence.

This conference is part of a series of academic events organized by the College of Islamic Sciences to elevate the level of scientific research and enhance student research capabilities.
