The College of Islamic Sciences at the University of Karbala organized a scientific symposium titled “Al-Sayyid Al-Sadr and History: A Rhetorical Vision” as part of its ongoing cultural and academic activities aimed at highlighting key figures in Islamic thought and their intellectual contributions. The lecture was delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Taghreed Abdul Ameer from the Department of Arabic Language.

The symposium was attended by a number of researchers and scholars interested in rhetorical and historical studies. It explored Al-Sayyid Al-Sadr’s perspective on reading history through a rhetorical lens, linking historical events with the structure of discourse.

In her lecture, Dr. Taghreed emphasized that historical texts are vital documents that recount past events and serve as witnesses that allow audiences to engage with diverse human experiences—thereby enhancing reflection and insight. She noted that literature, as a carrier of rhetorical values, has remained present in various forms of human discourse across the ages.

The symposium focused on Al-Sayyid Al-Sadr’s book “Fadak in History” as a practical case study, illustrating how historical writing in the book is grounded in rhetorical and artistic elements. It employs historical writing strategies such as ideological implication, argumentation, and narrative construction, which endow the text with a high level of persuasive power and impact on the reader.

This symposium comes within the college’s efforts to promote scientific research and highlight the intellectual and aesthetic dimensions of the heritage of prominent Islamic thinkers.
