Professor Emeritus Dr. Aboud Joudi Al-Hilli, a faculty member at the College of Islamic Sciences, University of Karbala, participated in an international scientific conference organized by the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at Suez University in the Arab Republic of Egypt. The conference was titled: “Languages and the Humanities and Their Societal and Civilizational Role in the Advancement of Nations.”

Dr. Al-Hilli contributed to the conference with a research paper entitled: “Bilingualism Between Classical Arabic and Dialects and Its Impact on the Future of the Arab Society.” His study addressed the status of the Arabic language amid the prevalence of local dialects, exploring the effects of this linguistic duality on the cultural and linguistic awareness of Arab communities.

In his paper, Dr. Al-Hilli emphasized that while Arabs speak in diverse dialects, they are unified in their written language—Classical Arabic—which they use for reading the Holy Qur’an, the Prophetic traditions, and Islamic and Arab heritage texts. He also noted that repeated warnings about the potential disappearance of Classical Arabic due to the spread of dialects lack strong evidence, as dialectal diversity is an ancient phenomenon that predates Islam.

This participation adds to a series of scholarly activities that contribute to strengthening the presence of Iraqi academic talent on the international stage.
