The Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Islamic Sciences at the University of Karbala held a scientific seminar titled “The Art of Speaking and Analyzing Purposeful Content,” delivered by liaison member Bashair Sabah Mahdi to the students of the Department of Quranic Sciences and Islamic Education.

The seminar aimed to highlight two essential skills that contribute to positively influencing others and understanding messages with depth and awareness, thereby enhancing students’ academic and communication abilities.

The first section addressed the art of speaking, explaining its importance in conveying ideas and feelings in a clear and impactful manner, with a focus on its main elements:

1. Clarity of the idea
2. Self-confidence
3. Body language
4. Choosing appropriate words

The second section discussed analyzing purposeful content, which involves understanding the message of a text or speech and extracting its main ideas. The seminar outlined its basic steps, including:

1. Identifying the main idea
2. Determining the purpose of the text
3. Distinguishing between facts and opinions
4. Evaluating the strength of arguments and evidence
5. Extracting sub-ideas

The seminar concluded by clarifying the complementary relationship between the two skills. Effective content analysis enables students to speak about it with confidence and clarity, while mastering the art of speaking helps present and analyze ideas in a clear and impactful manner, thereby enhancing students’ academic communication skills and ability to engage in purposeful dialogue.
